Jan is the manager Westmill Woodland Burial Ground out near the wind turbines on the way to Watchfield. It's a not for profit Community Interest Company. As you may be aware holding funerals of any description at the moment is pretty hideous due to the Covid 19 pandemic. Cemeteries, crematoria, and natural burial grounds like ours are having to restrict gatherings to a handful of close family only and enforce social distancing rules, all this at a time when most people just want an enormous hug. Aside from that people can't hold proper wakes or get floral tributes like they would normally. To make things even worse, if the person has died of Covid 19 they will most likely have died in isolation and their families will not be able to attend as they will also be in isolation. It really is heartbreaking. I would like to suggest that within the rules of self isolation we Lechlade folks come together as a community to pay our respects to those residents on their way to their final resting places. I am happy to co-ordinate this if families can tell me the date and time of the funeral cortege. Families would also need to request the funeral cars drive though Lechlade so it would also be good to know the route they are taking. This will only happen at the request of the family. It doesn't matter how much or how little people were known, I personally think it's important that no one goes to their final resting place unaccompanied or unacknowledged. Please do get in touch with me directly if I can help. Please contact me on the details below
Church life continues, though in a very different way without our regular meeting together physically in services. We are experimenting with online technology and hope to broadcast on Facebook Live a short act of worship for Mothering Sunday, 22 March, at 10am. We will be using our church Facebook page, but you do not need any new software or a Facebook account to view the live video. The live video will (hopefully) start about 9:55am and you may need to refresh your browser to see the new video. Please do give it a try and we will meet together virtually! Any feedback after the event is most welcome, as there will inevitably be a few glitches as we try this for the first time! Click image to see the Live Stream
This is a page for volunteers willing to help fellow Lechlade residents during the disruption caused by the Covid-19 outbreak.
